Introduction to Kennett

Welcome to Kennett, our small village is situated in Cambridgeshire, 6 miles from Newmarket and 13 miles from Bury St Edmunds. We are a short distance from both the A11 and the A14.

Kennett is lucky to have its own station with frequent trains to Cambridge, Ipswich and Peterborough. We have a population of approximately 320 people. We have our own village primary school, an ancient church and a pub that can boast of 4 ghosts. We share our playing field, post office, garage, pavillion and village hall with our neighbouring Suffolk village of Kentford. The village is mentioned in the Doomsday Book:

Chenet: St. Nicholas from William de Warenne. (Perhaps this is where Warren Road at Red Lodge gets its name from).

Local Government (Parish and Parish Councils) (England) Regulations 2008

The Council has commenced a Community Governance Review in response to a request from Kennett Parish Council to increase the number of councillors from five to seven.  The purpose of the review is to enable the Council to consider what changes are needed to the parish arrangements.

A District wide review has been undertaken in recent years with proposals being implemented in 2002.  A further review is now needed to deal with a specific issue:

Any requests to change the number of councillors on Kennett Parish Council ready for the 2011 elections.

The council is now conducting the first stage of the review process and is inviting residents and interested organisations to submit their views on the above issues.

The Council has published its Terms of Reference Document for the review and a copy can be obtained by contacting the Electoral Services team as shown below or viewed at the Council’s Offices.  It can also be viewed on the District Council’s website www.eastcambs.gov.uk or the parish website www.kennettvillage.co.uk by clicking this link Terms of Reference Document
